Where did it start, your love affair with food?

For us, somewhere between the zesty, succulent fruit stalls adorning Caribbean streets and the techni-coloured mountains of seasoning in the spice gardens of South Asia, our eyes were seduced.

Our bellies rumbled on our foraging trips, unearthing the freshest herbs, legumes and greens across English countryside. We teased and tantalised our taste buds,  trying out recipes sweet & savoury.

And, in the kitchen, we came undone at the perfect poetic crescendo of sumptuous flavours.

Our signature dishes tell the stories of our travels across the globe - the power of food to bring people together. As a social enterprise, Cafe Van Gogh reinvests its profits back into dedicated programmes that share our expertise with our local community through on-the-job training & food nutrition workshops.

In partnership with our neighbours at Christ Church, we've made a little home here in this iconic art nouveau listed building; just around the corner from where Vincent Van Gogh lodged whilst living in London in the 1870s.

It's time your love affair got serious.
Lunchtime crush, candlelit tryst or unbridled group celebration, we can find the perfect spot for you in our hidden gem of a cafe.

Oh, and did we mention? We're 100% vegan.

Bonita de Silva

HEAD CHEF

Bonita moved to London when she was 19 after spending time travelling around south east Asia and making full use of the cheap street food stalls.
In London she started out at music and arts venue called Corsica Studios running a pop up Jamaican food stall. Her next calling was at the Franks Cafe, on the rooftop in Peckham before moving on to working at The Camberwell Arms for 2 years.

South Asian spices called her back to India where she mastered vegan cooking in a restaurant in Bangalore and travelled further around Sri Lanka learning how to make the sambal, dhal and dosas.

Steven Clarke

FOUNDER

Following a 20 year career working in support and housing, in London and New York, Steve made the decision to pursue a lifetime ambition of opening a vegan community cafe. Its aim - to serve the needs of the local community, and support people with additional life challenges re-enter the workplace.
Steve splits his time between living on a narrowboat in Hertfordshire, and in London, he's lived in Lambeth for 15 years.

A keen forager and cook, he spends his time reading cook books and coming up with foodie ideas for the kitchen. Favourite dish at Cafe Van Gogh... jerk plantain!
